Beyond the Bus: Transit Agencies’ Goals

Many people assume increasing ridership is the primary goal of a transit agency, but THERE IS SO MUCH MORE!

Coverage and access play a MAJOR part in transit-oriented development (bringing that term back, remember it?!), on top of driving economic growth in our region. Transportation systems work toward being inclusive and affordable, without barriers linked to race, income, age, or ability. Transit is also resource-efficient and supports low-emission neighborhoods. It's an indispensable tool to prevent climate change, clean our air, and protect public health.

Transit agencies have a lot to focus on, including offering multi-modal options for riders, being consistently reliable and safe. Limiting state and government funding of transit initiatives is not an option if Tarrant County plans to keep growing.

Something to consider - “A developed country is not a place where the poor have cars. It’s where the rich use public transportation.” -Enrique Peñalosa. Transit is essential. Transit is a service.
