About the Event

In 2013, when Harris County Metropolitan Transit Authority (Houston Metro) started looking at its bus service, they found an outdated network that was costly and inefficient.  It wasn’t meeting the basic needs of its riders. Houston Metro sought to change the perception of riding the bus by modernizing the network and integrating other modes. With a  focus on public outreach, emerging trends, and expert advice, metros across the state have redesigned their bus networks to meet the changing needs of customers, while balancing the old patterns of longtime riders. During this webinar, we’ll hear from transit agency experts from across the state, including our hometown team, and explore what brought about the change in thinking, why the new focus on the bus, how changing transportation modes are impacting the network, and how they balance the many different demands on the system.  We’ll also talk about how the pandemic has impacted these efforts.
